About the Journal of Robustness Reports

The Journal of Robustness Reports (JRR) is a peer-reviewed, diamond open-access journal established to address a critical issue in contemporary empirical research: the fragility and hidden variability of statistical conclusions. In most empirical articles, results are derived from a single analytic path, typically selected and executed by the same team that designed the study and collected the data. However, recent many-analyst initiatives have revealed that different, methodologically defensible approaches to data analysis often yield markedly different results, even when applied to identical data and hypotheses.

This analytical multiplicity exposes an inherent epistemic vulnerability: the robustness of conclusions remains unknown unless alternative analyses are explicitly conducted. JRR aims to fill this gap by publishing Robustness Reports—concise, structured reanalyses of existing empirical findings, executed by independent teams using alternative statistical methodologies.

Each Robustness Report is limited to 500 words and follows a fixed structure comprising an abstract, goal, methods, results, and conclusion section, alongside mandatory disclosures concerning reproducibility and data/code availability. These reports are designed to be accessible, rigorous, and fully transparent. When appropriate, an editorial synthesis is added to provide a broader epistemic context.

JRR does not select or reject reports based on whether the reanalysis corroborates or contradicts the original result. Instead, our criteria emphasize methodological soundness, transparency, clarity, and professionalism. The goal is not to challenge individual studies but to expose the epistemic landscape in which their conclusions reside. Through this approach, we aim to promote greater inferential humility, encourage the use of advanced statistical tools, and improve the robustness of scientific claims.

Operating under a diamond open-access model, JRR imposes no fees on authors or readers. All content is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, ensuring that the findings remain freely available and widely disseminated. Our mission aligns with broader efforts to reform scientific publishing and foster open, reproducible research practices.

In the long term, we envision a research culture in which robustness assessments become an integral part of the publication process. If successful, JRR will help catalyze this transformation and ultimately render itself redundant. Until that time, the Journal of Robustness Reports will serve as a platform for epistemic transparency, methodological plurality, and the open exploration of uncertainty in scientific inference.
